MY UNIVERSITY IS CANCELLING MY COURSE!!

Hi everyone, so obviously I mentioned the not so great things about University in another blog but things have taken a drastic turn for the worse!!

I am currently on the Broadcast Journalism course at The University of Portsmouth. This is the first year this course has ever been run here at the uni, to start with we were small numbers and as the year has progressed a couple of students dropped out due to their own personal reasons BUT we didn't think we would have our course taken away from us??

Obviously you choose a course which is best suited to you and your future goals, clearly at Portsmouth they don't really care too much about that and just want to run courses with significant numbers to make their lives easier but use the excuse of, "oh, you're not getting the best experience".

3 weeks ago, the heads of departments called an "URGENT MEETING", I was thinking how urgent can it really be if it's in 3 weeks time..? It took a member of my course to be stressing out so much (because again my course was not put together properly and it's been a battle to complete course work this year) that it slipped out this meeting was about the University getting rid of our course altogether.

Well, today was finally the day of the meeting and instead of The University reassuring us, we have been told it'll be gone and we have two alternative courses to pick from. OR in one girls case, if you don't like the fact we're cancelling your course and don't want to change you can go to a completely different University all together. What sort of University has this lack of enthusiasm to help their students? I think an alternative of us being offered the Journalism with Media Studies course is an option we feel most comfortable with. Many of us would rather be on that side as the Journalism department actually function normally and do their best to help their students...unlike what we have received as the main Journalism department don't take care of our course.

As you can imagine, spending £9,250 for the year, that's without paying for halls and everything else, to not even be able to continue your course to get the degree you want is incredibly frustrating. A main reason we chose this course is because it is specifically accredited by the main Journalists which will obviously reflect better on us.

To sum things up, we were neglected for most of the year and now our course is being cancelled sooooooo as you can see - life's going great now! Oh not to mention, we still have an exam next week so this is just extra stress:) I have messaged a number of news sources to get this story out into the public further, we have already had some offers of publications that want to run this story - so fingers crossed it is heard about!

So, that's all from me! Today has been mentally draining and exhausting so I'm just going to spend my evening binge watching Netflix and eating! Hope all of you had a better day than I did.
